Coming out of central Texas, Calamity Jane offers an EP that is nothing short of pure musical adrenaline.  We’ll Explain When We Get There is a modern day pop punk master masterpiece from start to finish, bringing aspects from old punk and newer alternative music together for one hell of a punch. A guy like me listens to specific music depending on the mood I’m in and let me tell you this, if you plug your earphones in and start playing this record, it will motivate you to seize the day and then some. It is the soundtrack to achieving every dream you have ever had.

Calamity Jane wastes no time, throwing you directly into the middle of what this band is all about. Fast-paced intro riffs have you sprinting into the extremely catchy chorus of “Bandit”, leaving zero room for any of those dull moments we often come across in today’s music. The

Calamity Jane is No Where Near a Calamity

song “Pidcoke” speeds down a similar road; the only difference is a more relaxed vocal approach by Cameron Brickell that matches the instrumental performance perfectly.

The gem of the record, the crowd pleaser I am willing to bet, is called “Sweet.” I can definitely hear audiences yelling the anthem-like lyrics back at the band, with hands raised and their bodies moving. I even enjoyed the metal style breakdown towards the end of the song and it finishes off this record with a good headbang. I do want to add, and while I think all members are very talented musicians, the drumming on these tracks really sends the overall sound to the next level. Davis Dillons’ drums are the loudest part of the record but they aren’t overpowering. He does a good job at keeping his drum parts very tasteful; knowing what sort of beat is appropriate for specific sections of each song to maintain that perfect balance.

Be sure to vote for these guys to be on Vans Warped Tour this year, they definitely deserve the exposure. A band that can bring as much energy and excitement through their music needs to be able to reach out to as many people as they can. I highly recommend We’ll Explain When We Get There to any fans of bands like Green Day, Blink-182, and Set Your Goals; it would definitely be right up your alley. I wish these guys the best and hope they achieve great things; nothing should stop them from being a new punk phenomenon in the music world of tomorrow.
