Sometimes you hear music, and immediately, certain images pop into your mind. Upon hearing the Model Human EP Conversion, immediately I thought of lazy Sunday mornings with a mug of my favorite kind of coffee. This New Orleans based duo, consisting of Christopher Senac and Timothy Trepagnier, describe themselves as “a progressive jazz guitar duo,” which describes the genre perfectly, but does nothing to hint at the amazing skill these two men posses. The talent of the guitar playing alone is undeniable and makes all of Conversion a pleasure to listen to.

The EP opens with the funky guitar sounds of “This Old House,” a mellow, jazzy song. “This Old House” immediately hooks the listener with the staccato guitar chords. However, it is the ever-changing tempo of this song that makes this song

so memorable, going from a quick opening to a slower middle and end.

Model Human then moves into a cover of Passenger’s “Let Her Go” which is wonderful. Trepagnier’s voice matches with the duo’s twist on this song perfectly and is as flawless as the guitar playing itself. Agreeing with the YouTube comments that say this cover is better than the original track, it left me wanting more vocals from the group. Unfortunately, this is the only track with vocals on this EP, though I suspect that it is far from the last.

The next two songs “Penpals” and “Ressanisance Love” start to blend together for me, but not at all in a bad way. While listening to these two songs, I became so relaxed by the music itself that I hardly noticed when one song seamlessly slipped into the other.

Conversion ends with “Guitars at the End of The World” another one of my favorites off this EP. While only a minute long, this song captures both the jazz qualities of the duo’s hometown of New Orleans and a bit of the thematic Southern rock twang.

Overall, Model Human is a wonderful duo with amazing skills on the guitar. If you like acoustic or jazz music you’ll definitely find interest in this group. Personally, I hope to hear more of them in the near future. If you are interested in listening to Model Human you can find their EP Conversion at their BandCamp or you can also check them out on Facebook.
