Courage My Love - Spirit Animal
Justin Williams | Jul. 8, 2014
Courage My Love is a pop punk/rock group comprised of twin sisters, vocalist/guitarist Mercedes Arn-Horn and drummer/vocalist Phoenix Arn-Horn, and their friend Brandon Lockwood on bass. This trio is filled with high hopes and great potential that just gets you going!
In their latest EP, Spirit Animal, "Breathing Room" begins the album with an intro filled with electronic emphasis and a slow keyboard, which invites you to reflect on the lyrics. The chorus rocks, and is mixed with a bit more predominantly upbeat rhythms, all the while representing despair in the
lyrics, "I just need a breathing room.” I can feel the desperation felt by the group, which is a big achievement to convey to a listener.
"Interlude [Running]" is a simple, short track that starts slow and raises the bar in terms of pace, speed, and instruments. "I'm still running through your heart" is what Mercedes croons as the music pauses and repeats, creating an effect that transmits a rush for something, and it’s a great catch for those rock fans!
"I Don’t Even Wanna Know" starts with a great guitar intro and it really fascinated me, given the very professional structure in this song, which shows they have potential for the big leagues in my opinion. It is a song that shows huge improvements.
"Do As You're Told" is great if you like quiet themes, but still encompass a touch of rock. It’s a captivating subject and it really makes the listener think.
As a final conclusion, Courage My Love is a group that strives to be successful in expressing themselves through songs and these songs have many variations to appease the public's tastes.
If you’re a fan of what you hear, you can purchase this limited edition EP and admire them, live, at Warped Tour this summer!
