Direct Effect’s Sunburn is an EP that if you just gave it to me without telling me who it was, I would’ve thought it was some unreleased songs from Nirvana’s bleach days. But that’s not a bad thing, the loud feedback from the guitar and constant yelling from the lead singer makes this an EP that you definitely need to pick up.

Besides their 7” release in 2011, this is the only EP that Direct Effect has released so far and what a way to introduce yourself to the world. One of my favorite songs on the record is “Solar Flare.” The subtle rising tempo that finally erupts with the lead singer’s yelling is chilling and definitely made my heart rate rise, just wishing that I was at a smaller venue hearing it live. In fact, it’s one thing that’s great about this entire record… Any of these songs could be played live and be ten times as awesome.

Another song I particularly liked was “Permanent Vacation,” which I thought was a nice opening track and really got me in the mood for the hardcore punk that they offer. Overall, it’s a catchy track and it’s one you definitely need to check out if you plan on picking up this record.

If you want to pick up the vinyl release of Sunburn, you have multiple ways of doing it. It all starts off with going here (http://tinyengines.limitedrun.com/products/524204-direct-effect-sunburn-lp) where you’ll find that they released it in four different colors. You can pick that up for $12, or you can pick up a collection of all four colors for $40. However, if physical media isn’t your bag, you can pick it up digitally for $6 on bandcamp.

Sunburn is a Direct Effect
