The Late Shift is a solo album by front man Donald Spence of Versus the World. Versus the World is a punk rock band from the sunny city of Santa Barbara, California that released their self-titled debut album back in 2005. Now, nine years later, Donald Spence has decided to take a step back from the punk rock scene and open the iron gates to the alternative world by releasing his new album, The Late Shift.  This album’s acoustic hums and enticing lyrics will help fans discover the softer side of Spence that they may have not even known existed.

My choice song from this album has to be “The Late Shift,” hands down.  After listening to the song on repeat, I understand why Spence had to make it the title of his album. The song simply starts off with Spence’s voice and an acoustic guitar. It gives it a raw sound that makes

you feel connected to Spence right off the bat. After being reeled in by the authentic tunes, all other instruments come in one at a time, eventually building up to the chorus. This build up from the acoustic guitar to the full band makes you go from a head bob, to a full body groove.

This album has the spirited lyrics like Versus the World, but with softer acoustic sounds. This gives Spence a versatile element, making him perfect to jam to on any occasion. Give The Late Shift is listen and discover the other side of Donald Spence!
