Ivadell is a post-hardcore band hailing from Columbia, South Carolina who recently signed to Broken Circles Records. Their new EP Flow dropped early this month. The band consists of vocalist Josh Gilley, guitarists Jon Warf and Roger Caughman, drummer Justin Nix and bassist Patrick Thomas.
The three-track effort opens up with “For Love of Will”. From the start, there is a constant flow of ambient and heavy hitting guitars. The solemn start acts as a safe ground that you're always brought back to. The lyrics fit perfectly with the punch of the guitars that show the band’s inner emotions. This haunting tune will resonate in your
head for days.
“Breaking Light” starts off with a trancelike bassline that has the ability to pull you in and capture you. With a steady drumbeat and ambient guitars Gilley's vocals lead you to another dimension. Throughout the song, a wall of sound is created which makes a perfect transition into “Flickering” – the heaviest and fastest song on the release. “Flickering” maintains a consistent swell of musicianship throughout the song. This song ends the EP on a perfect note, carrying you with their big hooks and leaving you wanting more.
This band brings something new to the table, drawing influences from Quicksand, Failure and early Deftones, which creates a unique combination. Their passion and drive is echoed throughout this EP. You should take the time to check these boys out. You surely won't be disappointed.
