disorienting parts as well. It definitely mirrors the effects of addiction and the battles that people go through. With lyrics like “I’ll hold this darkness inside of me” and “enter the black” it just shows what a dark path addiction is and that it’s hard to veer off of it alone.
This isn’t just a randomly chosen issue for the band either, it is very personal and this attachment definitely comes through in the song. Because of this connection they have decided to donate 50% of proceeds made in February to the Gateway Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Treatment. Taking stands on and getting the word out about different issues is a big part of the music industry, so it’s no surprise when Chicago based band Lionfight stuck with that trend. Their newest single “Black” is about the damaging and inescapable control that addiction has over a person, specifically a heroin addiction.
The song plays with the listener at first, kicking off with an oddly soothing music box melody that suddenly becomes hammering drums. There is no softening the blow here. The heaviness and intensity of the single continues throughout the entire song but it also includes some airy,
