People On Vacation - The Chronicles of Time Powers

the album sounds a lot like Bowling For Soup’s pop punk vibe, but Hamilton’s inclusion makes the sound more modern.
Sometimes when I’m listening to a song for the first time, I end up listening to the music more than the lyrics. So when a lyric pops out to me on the initial runthrough, I know the song has my full attention. That’s what happened with the track “You May Not Believe In God.” The lyric that popped out to me was “Right before she left, she said the strangest thing: You’re gonna worship me.” The visual of the girl in the song wearing this amazing red dress being compared to the devil really stuck out to me, so it was fun to imagine this character actually voicing this to the singer.
“You May Not Believe In God” was the first song that popped out to me in terms of music, but “Punk Rock World” caught my attention because of its title. My inner freshman reared her head up and wanted to know what this song was all about. However, once I actually listened to the song, I was a little disappointed. It’s so slow! I wanted something that referenced punk rock to be, well, more punk rock. Reddick and Hamilton manage to get those angsty, punk vocals in the song, but I wish this title had been given to a song that was less ballady. With that said, it’s a solid song, but don’t go in expecting to get down with some of that titular punk rock in this song.
“The Girl I Used To Love” stuck out to me as well, because I do love me a good breakup song. It sounds like Hamilton’s vocals come in first, and I really love his voice. In the beginning of the song, I was getting a little bit of a Butch Walker vibe because of Hamilton’s vocals and the lyrical content; however, that feel doesn’t hold as much as the song progresses. This is another slower song, and I didn’t expect this album to have too many of them, as I listened to this album with the preconceived notion that it would be upbeat because of Reddick’s association.
Overall, this is a really solid album; I’ll give it that. However, if you’re not a fan of Reddick’s vocals, this album isn’t going to be for you. If you’re into pop punk, though, you need to check this album out. Unfortunately for American fans, the band are currently touring in the UK. While you’re waiting for them to return, check out their website, which has some really cool comics that go along with their album’s theme.
When I initially listened to People On Vacation’s The Chronicles of Tim Powers, I was immediately rocketed back into my late middle school and early high school years, when I was really into pop punk bands. What started with Green Day’s Dookie resulted in me filling my second generation iPod with the sounds of Fountains of Wayne, Better Than Ezra, and Bowling For Soup. In my late high school years, though, I lost my beloved iPod, and I didn’t get to hear those bands as often anymore. So when I heard People On Vacation, which includes Bowling For Soup’s Jaret Reddick and Smile Smile’s Ryan Hamilton, I was swept up by a wave of nostalgia. On the whole,
