Plain White T's @ The Wharf

After getting inside the amphitheater and finding our seats, I noticed the crowd was not quite as big as I expected with who was performing. Starting 15 minutes early and coming out on stage with enthusiasm, the Plain White T’s started off the concert at The Amphitheater at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL. We were 11 rows away from the stage so we had a great view of everything. They kicked off their set with a newly released single called “American Nights,” which is the title track to their new album that will be released later this year. This was when my best friend who went with me mentioned how much she loved their hats and how hatastic they were.

The singer of the band, Tom, said we were in for a lot of love songs exciting me a good deal. Going into the song “1, 2, 3, 4” from their album Big Bad World, Tom asked the audience who all was in love which made me smile. I rapidly learned the words to it, since it was one I, surprisingly, didn’t know it but I really got into it.

Starting with a nice guitar riff, they went into the next song, “Should’ve Gone to Bed,” which is a fun song that went from being funny to something I realized a lot of the audience could relate to. Over half the audience was dancing and singing along as it got into it, though the way Tom sang this one made it hilarious and quite fun to watch.

A crowd favorite and the one that really got everyone going was the ever popular “Hey There Delilah.” Tom ended up pausing and forgetting where he was in his performance of the song because he stopped to take a selfie with a fan, who walked away as he said ‘I’ll probably never seen her again, story of my life,” which is what he did through almost every song. It was amusing watching people come up and him leaning over in the middle of a song to get in the picture. He did get back into the song “Hey There Delilah”  and ended it with a ‘Hey There Orange Beach’ which got the crowd going even more so with his saucy delivery of the line.

They ended their set with “Rhythm of Love;” another favorite of the fans. Leaving the stage, the bassist attempted throwing picks into the audience and failed. Even though they only performed for about half an hour, PWT’s definitely got the crowd pumped! As hot as it was, they put on an awesome performance so it was well worth it.
