Five years after the disbandment of The Progress, guitarist Eric McNelis is set to release a full debut album, Settling, with his new band Sleep In. As part of the emo revival, the record is due for digital release April 29, 2014.
Opening track “I Do Know and I’m Not Sorry” has great guitar riffs and catchy melodies. The track is full of strong, no holding back lyrics such as “Go ahead and take your best shot/ You haven’t seen the best that I got.” It’s a great opener and taste of what’s to come.
“Bound To Fold” at just shy of two minutes long is perhaps my favorite with its seeming simplicity, soothing tone and honest, heartfelt lyrics. This is a perfect chill out tune.
The stand out track “Antisocial Darwinism,” (awesome track title, by the way), is like a musical ‘screw you’ to society with lyrics like, “I’m not here for your approval / I’m here to make you think.”
The album closes with title track “Settling,” leaving you wanting more with its strong guitar riffs and honest, heartfelt lyrics.
The band has plans for a weekend tour to Boston at the end of May for the record's release, as well as weeklong tours before the year is out. Be sure to keep up with these guys!
Settling to Sleep In.
